Also, there's nothing all that amiss in 'Murder Ahoy', thankyouverymuch. Also, Charles "Bud" Tingwell, was fabulous - he is always fabulous - in the 1997 film, 'The Castle'. (Filmed in 11 days). Joan Hickman was my first Miss Marple and although she fits the role better these films are perfect for the time frame. I enjoy the interior shots, the clothes and I for one enjoyed Murder Ahoy and Murder at the Gallop very much. Robert Morley was wonderful in his role as was Stringer Davis as her easy going side kick. Tingwell did a great job of treating her almost like a favorite Aunt and I really found Flora Robson as the Murderess equal to Margaret Rutherford in the scene in the bedroom in which Robson confesses... I have watched these films several times and will many times more. You're quite right, Murder She Said adhered to the plot of 4:50 from Paddington quite closely...whereas with the other films they ( the screenwriters ) took some liberties. My little sisters and I absolutely love Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple movies.I agree with everything you wrote: the movies and Miss Rutherford herself are absolutely fabulous. Even if they aren't very true to the source novels (and the later movies were complete fabrications), I feel they have become a real part of the Agatha Christie film canon, and a wonderful addition at that. I'm so glad you mentioned how she was the "women's fencing champion" in your summary of Murder, Ahoy- it's one of my favorite lines from all four films. If you have a chance, check out my latest post (http://theartofilm.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-reappearing-portrait-from-murder.html) about a mystery painting in Murder, She Said. I think you'll find it very intriguing and perhaps you'll be able to help me out. Thanks again for your wonderful post!! In the case of MURDER, SHE SAID I think the plot of '4.50 From Paddington' is followed fairly closely - the main difference is the Marple characterisation and her (very sensible) substitution for Lucy Eyelesbarrow.Sergio (Tipping My Fedora)http://bloodymurder.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799060793812204452.post-34384856622223300182014-03-21T06:17:19.662-04:002014-03-21T06:17:19.662-04:00Pollock did direct TEN LITTLE INDIANS (it was his ...Pollock did direct TEN LITTLE INDIANS (it was his last feature) but Frank Tashlin directed THE ALPHABET MURDERS, which of course has a fun little cameo from Rutherford more or less in character as Miss Marple.Sergio (Tipping My Fedora)http://bloodymurder.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8799060793812204452.post-76580607361752747742014-03-20T23:33:03.012-04:002014-03-20T23:33:03.012-04:00I like Margaret Rutherford and I have enjoyed the ...I like Margaret Rutherford and I have enjoyed the two or three movies of this group that I have seen and I love the musical theme, but I just don't think of her as Miss Marple.
