The Impossibly Difficult Name that Movie Game

Since we are going to highlight biblical films next month as a special feature, we thought we'd make this round of the Impossibly Difficult Name that Movie Game follow in that general direction. And when we say general direction...we mean general. Now that ought to confuse you!

Good luck guessing!

GAME OVER.

Congratulations to Damsbo for correctly guessing "Francis of Assisi" ( 1961 ) starring Bradford Dillman, Stuart Whitman, and Dolores Hart. In this scene, Francis is armed for battle and comes to a river to let his horse drink water when he hears a voice calling him. This voice later tells him to build a church for the people of Assisi.

  1. Shoot, I don't know, but I love that picture! The waterfall and the knight is a great combo.

    1. Aww, I thought for sure we had a winner when I saw a comment on this photo. It is a beautiful scene, isn't it now. If you look in the background you can see an old stone shrine...a hint that this wasn't filmed in America ( Although we certainly do have a few shrines dotted across the land ).

    2. Well, if I was to guess, I'd pick "Knights of the Round Table" with Robert Taylor, only because the knight in the picture is so colorful and I remember very colorful knights in that movie! But I haven't seen that movie since high school, so... can't actually remember if this is from that. I would also think it was filmed over here, which would rule it out. It also reminds me that regardless, I'd like to see that movie again! Must see if I can add it to my netflix queue.

    3. Great guess DKoren...but sorry, no dice. You really ought to watch Knights of the Round Table again though, it's great fun!

  2. Hmmm -- my comment didn't seem to take, so I'll try again. Is it "Black Shield of Falworth" with Tony Curtis?

    1. Now that's a movie we have yet to see! Don't you just love those colorful knights-in-armor flicks? Good try but that's not the right answer.

    1. Welcome to Silver Scenes! How nice to see you here Mr. Ashby. You gave a valiant try...but sorry, it's incorrect. The soldier in the image is a very noble character however.

  5. Is it the War(s) of the Roses, or something like that?
I've been looking desperately to find a movie that was on a VHS recorded after "Black Shield of Falworth" that was about the wars of the roses, but I can't remember if that was the actual name of it or not... =(

    1. The Black Arrow....hey, now that's a movie we have not yet seen! Thanks for putting us on to the scent of that film, but sorry it's not the correct answer. Try again!

  7. Sword of Lancelot with Cornell Wilde?

    1. Yes, that could be Cornell Wilde there...but it isn't. You are on the right track however...it's a man, and he IS a soldier.

    1. "Camelot! Camelot!" Tis true, that be a beautiful land...but alas, no waterfalls could be found in Camelot. And forsooth, this colorful knight be a nobler man than Sir Launcelot.

  12. Let's see. It's English no doubt, and probably widescreen so 1950s. And vaguely biblical so..

    Parsifal (1953)

  13. Title given online as Parsifal. Using English spelling that's Percival (and thus the "General" hint).

    1. Sorry, that's not the correct answer....Percival or Parsifal. Guess again!

  14. Dang, well let's see quartered arms of the king of England.. Widescreen..

The Dark Avenger 1955, Errol Flynn's last hurrah.

  16. Certainly a lot of guesses for this one - many good ones too - so maybe it's time we finally resolve it: Francis of Assisi (1961).
