Roku Picks for August

This month, for our Streaming Picks series, we are focusing the spotlight on the Roku app since they have a nice mixture of television series and films available this July/August. 

In addition to some rarer British series well worth checking out (such as the intriguing The Gentle Touch with the talented Jill Gascoigne) there are also a few obscure American series not usually available on the streaming apps. Code 3 is a really rare series from 1957 about "real-life cases from the Los Angeles sheriff's office" and Steve Canyon (1957-1958) is a hardly-ever-talked-about action series that also features real-life cases... this time from the files of the United States Air Force. Also worth checking out is The Lawless Years (1959-1961) starring James Gregory as a New York cop fighting crime during the Roaring 20s.

Streaming Picks for March

This month's lineup of films available for streaming features some entertaining British pictures including the comedy Genevieve (1953) about a man and his wife who take part in the Brighton run with their antique 1904 Darracq and the excellent adventure flick Flame Over India (released stateside as Northwest Frontier) starring Kenneth More and Lauren Bacall. Also, be sure to check out some of the Powell and Pressburger productions which are now available on FreeVee including our personal favorite I Know Where I'm Going which is set in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and features the dashing Roger Livesay alongside Wendy Hiller.

This month, the Tubi streaming app has posted a number of really good films. There is a focus on musicals and comedies of the 1940s as well as a great selection of Bette Davis classics including Jezebel and Mr. Skeffington.

Tubi Picks for October

Every few months, the film and television show selections that streaming services offer change. The shows you have been watching on Tubi may suddenly disappear and are now available on Pluto or Peacock, or they have been replaced with five other shows and 15 new titles that you cannot possibly watch in two months' time. 

It can be overwhelming browsing through all of the major apps to see what's new in "free streaming", so every month we will round up a selection to share... that way you can see what's new and recommended in one convenient list.
