GAME OVER.
Congratulations to The Tactful Typist for correctly identifying this scene from the screwball comedy "Midnight" ( 1939 ) starring Don Ameche, Claudette Colbert, John Barrymore, and Mary Astor. In this scene, one of the French taxi cab drivers recognized Colbert as the woman that Don Ameche was hunting for and he's got a look of satisfaction on his face as he speeds toward her car.
That could very easily be a French actor driving a Peugeot 402 B in "Paris Chante Toujours!" ("Paris Still Sings!") [1951]
ReplyDeleteHi Damsbo! This is a good guess but it is not the film. But now I'm curious to watch "Paris Still Sings"....what a great cast!
DeleteIs this from the marvellous comedy called "Midnight" (1939) starring Don Ameche and Claudette Colbert? A great film filled with French taxi drivers!
ReplyDeleteBingo! That's it exactly, Tactful Typist! Yes, isn't that a wonderful comedy? It seems like Claudette Colbert's other comedies are always mentioned more frequently then Midnight, but I think it is one of her best.
DeleteGood one, Typist. Nice to see actual classics film viewing beating clinical "cars in movies" sleuthing ;)
DeleteThank you, Damsbo! Claudette Colbert is a favourite of mine, and I thought Ameche was perfectly cast! I've watched this film so many times that I sometimes murmur "Da-da" under my breath whenever I see someone not appreciating life's farcical moments!😂
