From the Archives: A Ticklish Affair (1963)

Little Grover (Peter Robbins) was taking a flight on some tethered weather balloons when he decided to cut the ropes and really soar in 1963's A Ticklish Affair. This brought Officer Key (Gig Young) and a fleet of patrol cars out trying to chase him down...a difficult task to do with San Diego's shifting winds.

From the Archives: The Happy Road (1957)

These two wide-eyed youngsters are runaways from a Swiss boarding school, both of whom are trying to get to Paris to reunite with their father and mother in the delightful comedy "The Happy Road". Bobby Clark, the little brown-haired boy, plays the son of Gene Kelly while Brigitte Fossey plays the daughter of Barbara Laage.

In this original publicity photo for Rome Adventure (1962), Rossano Brazzi and Suzanne Pleshette are engrossed in "Lovers Must Learn," the novel that Rome Adventure was based on.

The End of the Affair (1955)

Van Johnson and Deborah Kerr are taking a quick break during the making of the romantic melodrama The End of the Affair (1955). This was several years before Kerr had her most famous affair with Cary Grant in An Affair to Remember (1957).

From the Archives: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961)

Walter Pidgeon and his group of submarine sailors head down into deep waters in the 1961 action-adventure film Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, produced by 20th Century Fox. In this scene, Robert Sterling and John Litel share Walter Pidgeon's concern that the Earth will burn up and sync their watches as the Seaview races to launch a rocket to blow up the Van Allen belt before the Earth is destroyed.

From the Archives: Come to the Stable (1949)

This photo from Come to the Stable (1949) shows Dorothy Patrick, Hugh Marlowe and Louis Jean Heydt in one of my favorite scenes. Dorothy is singing "Through a Long and Sleepless Night" which they all agree will be composer Hugh Marlowe's best song yet... until they hear the nuns from the convent across the lawn singing an old French melody that sounds just like the piece. The set design for Hugh Marlowe's house is marvelous - who wouldn't want that great big fireplace!

From the Archives: Son of Frankenstein (1939)

Boris Karloff as the famous "Monster" from the Frankenstein films (in this photo, The Son of Frankenstein). The make-up for all of the early Frankenstein movies was done by Jack Pierce, whom you could read more about in our previous articles here

From the Archives: The Princess and the Pirate (1944)

In this still from The Princess and the Pirate (1944), Bob Hope is in the company of dangerous pirates and knows it! What he doesn't know yet is how to get out of the sticky situation that he is in... but he'll think of something. He always does!

From the Archives: The Deadly Mantis (1957)

William Hopper is giving Craig Stevens a hearty hello handshake but the Air Force-man only has eyes for Alix Talton....as does the men behind him. Of course, later all of them are more concerned about the giant mantis than romancing women from Washington.

From the Archives: The Treasure of Lost Canyon (1952)

Three happy people... Julie Adams is looking lovely, Charles Drake is handsome as usual, and the little smiling boy is Tommy Ivo pictured here in this still from the little-known western The Treasure of Lost Canyon (1952).

From the Archives: Another Time, Another Place (1958)

Glynis Johns had a whale-of-a-tale to tell about how she caught that fish... although I suspect it was the gentleman who really snagged this shark. This was taken on the coast of England in Polperro during the making of Another Time, Another Place (1958).

From the Archives: Hazel (1962)

Caught in the act! Oh, Mr. B... you should be ashamed of yourself. Hazel caught you raiding the refrigerator again - and after you swore that you were going to stick with your diet! Tsk, tsk, tsk.

From the Archives: Carefree (1938)

Here's that dynamic dancing duo Astaire and Rogers tapping away on the beautiful hardwood floor of a set designed by Art Van Nest Polglase. Fred must have scuffed up many a floor in his day with all his toe-tapping.

From the Archives: The Light Touch (1951)

George Sanders is looking as affable as ever in this still from the 1951 thriller The Light Touch starring Stewart Granger and Pier Angeli. Pier looks like she is falling in love with Stewart..which is a shame because the film's poster foretells: "If she knew what he was, she'd never give him her youth and innocence!" You'll have to watch the film to find out if she really goes that far.

From the Archives: Vengeance Valley (1951)

Burt Lancaster and Robert Walker co-star as warring half-brothers in the western drama Vengeance Valley (1951). In this scene, one can clearly see who the "baddie" is by his dark-colored shirt!

From the Archives: House on Haunted Hill (1959)

Watch out!! Don't touch that cobweb! Props like that don't grow on trees. The spiders at William Castle Productions were working overtime to produce all of the webs seen throughout the Pritchard house in House on Haunted Hill and Carolyn Craig stepped through quite a few of them during her stay there...just like she is about to mess this one up, too.
